Challenge #10 - How to turn organic waste into a resource
Background information for the challenge
One of the environmental threats from organic waste is the production of greenhouse gasses (methane and carbon dioxide) from such waste decomposing in landfills.
This contributes significantly to the global warming and climate change.
The European Union has set a goal to limit the amount of waste in cities and encourage municipalities to deal with organic waste, encouraging more circular economy practices!
Organic waste is a very valuable resource, but only few cities sufficiently make use of it. Currently only about 2 % of valuable organic materials are used and looped back in the system. Do you have ideas how to deal with organic waste issues in cities better?
