Challenge #3 - Reduce inflow of marine litter from urbanstormwater systems
Background information for the challenge
Densification and climate change are putting more stress on the urban areas. Increasing rainfall and storms cause flooding on the streets that can damage properties and cause risks to health and life.
At the same time during the summer, dense urban areas are becoming heat islands and drinking water is used for watering plants and greenery. The excessive stormwater could be taken use of! The stormwater could be taken back from the pipelines to the ground, as a part of urban landscape and recreational remedy.
There is a need for innovative approaches to use the excess rainwater in the urban areas and to increase the resilience of the urban infrastructure and sustainability of the living environment.
